****Bear activity has been increasing. For this reason a food storage order is in effect at all developed campgrounds on the Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District, and the Piney Guard Station, Tigiwon Lodge, Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, Homestake Road FSR 703, and Nolan Creek Road. This order requires all food and refuse to be stored in hard-sided vehicles, approved bear-resistant containers, or supended at least 10 feet clear of the ground at all points and four feet horizontally from any supporting tree or pole. This order has been issued to provide for public safety and wildlife conservation. Hopefully it will reduce wildlife habituation problems.** The Gold Park campground is located along Homestake Creek in the Homestake Valley in a forested setting. There are 12 camp sites available. [Holy Cross Wilderness](http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/whiteriver/recarea/?recid=81113) is nearby; all [wilderness regulations](http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/whiteriver/specialplaces/?cid=stelprd3825863) must be observed when traveling in the wilderness (foot and horse travel only). There are several trailheads into the wilderness within driving distance of the campground and the Homestake Reservoir is about 3 miles further west on Homestake Road. There is a [printable Recreation Quicksheet for this campground](http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd546397.pdf) which is complete with directions, details, and other information about this campground.
(Travel west on I-70 to Exit 171 for Minturn, Leadville, and Hwy 24.)
From the Minturn, CO exit on I-70 travel southeast on Highway 24 for about 13 miles to Homestake Road, Forest Service Road 703. Take a right onto this good dirt road and continue 7 miles to the Gold Park Campground on the left.
Quite little campground with the Stream close by, Very pricey for what you get. Fire pit had not been cleaned in what looked like a year. Bathrooms were very well kept, No camp host on site and no firewood for sale as a result. A few Humming Birds flying around, The stream appeared to be way over fished as I did not see a single fish.
Have been camping in and around Leadville CO since 1967. The picture uploaded today was from Gold Park Campground in July 1982 the year of my marriage. Such wonderful memories. No digital camera back then so it is a film photo. I love camping in this camper with my parents and two siblings all trying to stay warm at night, hiking and fishing during the day along with riding horses up to the top of the mountains. So much fun!! Those memories will be with me forever❤️
We are maintenance for White river NF this year and we went to paint the bathroom today. This is very well kept campground and one bathroom here is very clean. just 9miles of dirt road off highway24!
It was nice and quiet. Facilities were clean and very well maintained. Pretty protected from the wind, but sun goes down early because of mountains and trees.
Awesome remote campground! The road up was gravel but had very few potholes. Several of the sites were pretty close together with little privacy, but most were spaced out with trees between. The creek was gorgeous. It was convenient to get to multiple trailheads and Leadville easily. There’s a lot of dispersed spots along the road too.
