About Campground

The closest campground to the New River Gorge Bridge. Chestnut Creek Campground offers quiet primitive camping in the woods. We are a mere half a mile (0.5mi) from the New River Gorge Bridge! That's walking distance folks. Our hygienic facility has hot showers, lavatory stalls, hand washing sinks, and a wash basin located outside for dish washing and filling up water jugs. Firewood and Ice are available on site as well. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire pit. A general store and burrito bar are located literally around the corner; Both are within walking distance. Hiking and Climbing trail-heads (Fern Buttress, Endless Wall, Beauty Mountain; to name a few) are just down the way and access to the river is a stone's throw away (our drive is just across from Fayette Station Rd). If you're wanting to venture further to more local restaurants/shops; we are only a 5 minute drive from downtown Fayetteville. We are a pet friendly establishment for those with dogs who love to travel as much as you do. We keep quiet hours from 11pm-7am (starts @ midnight on weekends). Mainly we accommodate rustic tent camping, however; some sites are able to accommodate pop-up campers and trailers up to 20ft (we do not have hookups/electric). Call today to reserve a site for your upcoming adventure at the New River Gorge.

So we came here at the end of a long day exploring, and we dropped our $30 to reserve a spot into the after hours box and left to go get dinner. My wife wasn’t feeling well shortly after so we had to abandon our camping spot and get a hotel. Seth personally drove the next morning to our hotel to hand-deliver our $30 camping fee. And he did it with a smile. While we were not able to stay this time, you can bet this is the only place we will stay when we are in the area, that kind of customer service does not happen anymore. 💯

Arrived without reservations and the super friendly staff found us a great spot for the Labor Day weekend. We car camped in a Honda Fit so the shower house and restrooms were a great amenity. Local firewood is available for purchase. The location of the campground is within minutes of the bridge, visitors center and many of the adventure companies. We highly recommend this place!

This is a wonderful primitive campground. Well kept and the host was super helpful. I loved my stay here. I saw lots of deer around. Fairly peaceful. You can hear a bit of the traffic from Hwy 19. It's not a problem though. Showers were great. You just have to let the water run a bit before it gets warm. I will definitely be back.

They have good reviews for a reason! The sites were amply spaced out and the bathrooms/showers were very clean. The staff were friendly and chill as you simply call/text them when you arrive. Be sure to have cash as it’s $15 a person per night and $5 for firewood. Happy camping!

The gravel road was a bit bumpy but I drive a Chevy Cruze and made it just fine, no worries there.

One of the best sites I've had at any campground. We had a covered platform which was really great to have and provided a protected and level surface for a tent. Very private although since we went on weekdays it was quiet and we only saw one other camper. Close to the hiking we wanted and the other activities we did in the area. The bathroom was clean, we didn't use the showers but they looked as good as any other campground. Having a dishwashing sink outside the bathroom was very helpful as well. Firewood was reasonably priced and most of it was dry enough to burn. Would definitely recommend visiting.
