Shaded campgrounds and picnic areas complement the park's excellent swimming and boating facilities. The park was once used as a summer camp and an annual gathering spot for American Indians. Later, Samuel Mortimer arrived in 1869 and built the log cabin that still stands at the park.
It is a very well maintained campground with showers and a nice bathroom it seems to be almost exclusively RVs but it worked out very nice for us in tents
So far, so good. The state of South Dakota still hasn't fixed the road going into Oakwood, so be prepared for a bumpy ride to get to the park itself. So where is the money from fees going that the SD park system is collecting-sure isn't for upkeep!
Bathroom facilities are filthy. Water ran constantly in one of the showers and was unable to turn off. Garbage in vaulted bathrooms not emptied in a week.
Beautiful place to camp with interesting historical lamdmarks. Nice hiking trails. Beaches not too great, watch for leaches from time to time and recommend water shoes as beach is kinda rocky.
Beautiful spot on the lake. The cabins are well maintained and clean. We really enjoyed our stay!
