The park is northeast of Stockton in the lower foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Take State Highway 88 East through Jackson to the town of Pine Grove. Take a left turn on Pine Grove-Volcano Road and approximately 1.5 miles later you will arrive at the park. The second turnoff is the main entrance to the day use area while the first turn off is to the campground.
Beautiful place. Nice museum with a great piece of history. Great reproduction of a native village. They host a few interesting events over the year! They have 2 short trails and one of them is even quite well accessible. There are campgrounds and fire places.
I was on a school trip mid October and we didn't get to stay for too long, but really enjoyed getting to make a stop here! Definitely encourage anyone to spend some time reading up on this place and look around. Super pretty and educational! Plus there's a gift shop on site! The gentleman managing the gift shop was the sweetest. I want to say his name was Bill.
Such a great place . Lots of history, nice rangers, easy parking, clean bathrooms. One of the most beautiful black oak trees I've ever seen.
The museum offers an impressive insight into the sad history of the native americans.Unfortunately, you feel a bit lost in the outdoor area.
A beautiful visit, well-done & respectful homage to the still-living native culture. The South Nature Trail is barely half a mile of easy yet widely-varying topography through the oak forest, a quick, family-friendly mini-hike.
