It would have been great, but geez... Can't one just enjoy walking outside without having to pay for parking? We drove 3 hours and got there midafternoon looking to go to the boonies for some fresh air and a very low budget date, and the only option was going to be to pay for a whole day parking pass. While the pass itself wouldn't be considered by many "expensive" i didn't find it worth it after paying over $5/gallon at the nearest gas station...
I won't personally be looking to go back.
Great experience Fourth of July weekend, definitely bring water shoes for all the rocks if you plan on being around the water.
It's more for a boat experience. Yes, they have plenty of camp sites. But looking for a place to swim with no boat is hard. They do have boat rentals, but good luck with the internet service there is close to no service out there. Make all reservations before heading out and take plenty of canopies for shade
This Blue Oaks campground at Lake Don Pedro is nice lake about 40 minutes drive from Merced, CA. It’s pretty drive along the road. The cost to get in is $20 per car for a day pass. The lake is nice and hiking trail is ok about 1-2 miles hike, not bad but nothing special. It’s nice to see pretty wild flowers in spring though. There are couple good things there a clean bathroom and picnic tables.
