Located in the Afton Canyon Natural Area ACEC, adjacent to the Mojave River, about 37 miles northeast of Barstow and a few miles south of Interstate 15.
It's beautiful. For the price it's awesome. But I much prefer paying a little more for cleaner bathroom but getting to see the bridge at sunrise was great. Got to see the train at sunrise also. The camp ground was not crowded. Only the other campers for a Friday night. We have a parks pass so only $3 a night, but again, it did be worth charging us more to be able to clean up the bathrooms a bit. The view is great. At night you can see the Milky Way. We watched stars all night. About 3am they are the brightest.
Very nice for a remote campground. Nice big sites, clean pit toilets, Nice fire rings and shaded tables in many of the camps. The train is close by so bring your earplugs. Decent road, we got in easily with our 25 ft Winnebago View. Wouldn't try it if there was a chance of rain. You can see lots of places where it has washed out in the past. Lots of the iOverlander spots weren't accessible because of road grading berms. $6 a night, you can't beat that. Pretty views of the hills. Looks to be pretty popular with off roaders, but it was really quiet here on a Sat night in Dec.
What a fantastic adventure! From going on the razors annd exploring all the places, shooting range, the caves and climbing the ropes to get to the next level to good company and family. Great place !!
Wonderful place to get away from it all. We spent 5 days and only explored less than half. The roads are no problem if it hasn't been raining. We stayed in the campground at the very end site #13. They were not collecting fees. And we found the water spiket on our 2nd to last day. Lol almost every site has a BBQ pit and a separate fire pit plus a metal awning roof over picnic table.
We found some gorgeous rocks and 2 tranchulas. They didn't bother us or our animals.
We meet some awesome people.
