Burnwood is located across Route 19 from Canyon Rim Visitor Center and offers group camping. This site requires a Special Use Permit. For a permit for the group campsites, contact the permits office at 304-465-6517. Permits require a minimum of 10 business days after the application has been received.
This campsite is only for large parties of 8 or more with permits ($75). No signs saying this unless you go to one of the 2 pavilions. open field has no signs.
Not actually a campground for the public, as far as I could see. Left because I wasn't sure if my campsite would have been legal.
Looked like a place for events and the NPS to park their vehicles. But hookups and a big field. Some kind of explanatory signage would have been extremely helpful.
I didn't stay at the Burnwood Campground however I did hike the loop and climb the boulders. Amazing bouldering and the Rangers are super cool and will let you park in their lot.
Great place to catch the Burnwood trail. But camping there is by reservation only, one of the few in the park. Otherwise great place with pavilions to come and hang out for the day, maybe have a picnic. Parking lot is decent in size, but can get full and confusing when there are a good number of cars in it.
