The Castle Peak Wilderness Study Area is a semi-primitive backcountry area with no facilities. There is no motorized or mechanized use within the WSA to help preserve erosive soils, wildlife, scenic values, water quality and cultural resources.
Most beautiful hike I’ve ever done! Challenging, but worth it. The trail is very narrow in a lot of places with really steep drop offs. Very steep, definitely need trekking poles. In the summer there’s wildflowers and waterfalls everywhere. Great to do with dogs.
If you’re thinking about going there don’t think twice. The best hike pf my life so far. We went on Aug 28 and our group of four people were not physically fit but still we were able to hike to the lower blue lake and back. We enjoyed the entire hike the weather was perfect, there was slight drizzle in between but it only added to the beauty.
We witnessed beautiful views of waterfalls, different types of mushrooms, wildflowers, creeks and ofcourse the lower blue lake it was so beautiful that its not fair.
The best hike I have ever experienced. 3.5hrs up and 2 down. Take you time and enjoy the scenery.
The trail to the lower blue lake is easy to follow and doesn't require river crossing. Popular camping spots so make sure you arrive early if you want lake view tent location.
