It’s a gorgeous campground, nice spots, good space in a gorgeous area and the lake is amazing. But the second my wife and I pulled in we were approached by the campground host. She immediately approached us and asked if we were setting up camp. I was walking around with the dog already, my wife told her yes as she pulled out the tent. She proceeded to tell my wife that this campsite is great folater laa bigger camper and we should go around and look at the other campsites. Mind you, I have cancer and am exhausted, and my wife is pregnant. We just wanted to get set up and chill after driving. My wife told her it was a first come first serve campground so we were gonna stay in this spot as the pull through spot does not mean tent campers aren’t allowed to set up there even if it is a “better” spot for larger campers. She came back around later to look in the fire pit for trash, just very disruptive. I understand looking for trash but we were just hanging out at camp, that should be done before camp is occupied or just not done at all. Her husband also came by as I was napping and my wife was finishing setting up and questioned why there were things out of the car when she was just pulling what we needed out of the car not leaving it unattended. I’ve just never had a camp host be so inappropriate
We were in site B9, which was spacious and felt quite private. Our 30' travel trailer fit in the site just fine. We loved visiting Beartooth Lake and driving the Beartooth Highway. Also, the stargazing was great!
A wonderful campground hugging the margins of Beartooth Lake. I snagged a spot on the smaller and less-utilized C loop and had a great afternoon and evening. A little exploring of the area, some reading, and a chance to reorganize some of my gear. After dark I took a few pics to document the site's dark sky qualities. Most of the area around the Beartooth Hwy are pretty radically dark and this campsite was no exception. I took this photo after dark but before twilight was fully over. I liked the sight of the campsite in the next loop with their fire burning, illuminating the trees nearby. Great spot.
Cannot overstate how absolutely amazing this place is. A perfect spot to stay the night and enjoy the lake and it's trails. The lake was absolutely freezing however no force on heaven or earth could stop me from dipping my toes in a lake more beautiful than previously thought possible. I woke up to a freezing morning to walk to the lake and see the steam rise off her waters. I enjoyed the morning and glassed the opposite shores to see elk running across the other side. Hearing their calls made me want to live the rest of my life at that very spot and remain perfectly content. If you're looking for a spot to spend the night with a view. This is the place for you.
Great lake and campground, but someone(s) don't respect the bears, as in keeping their FOOD properly stored. This creates a massive problem, obviously. Respect the rules. Be safe.
