The road up is a bit of a challenge. Rough. Washed out. Narrow. Blind curves. Go slow, enjoy the beautiful view of the Tetons
Don’t waste your time!
From mid October closed gates will meet you after 30min on very rough rode climbing up the hills!
Great campsite not far from Grand Tetons & right near the National Elk Refuge. We have an 06 Chevy Cobalt & made it up the slightly sketchy road but be prepared to go slow & potentially bottom out a few times lol. Access Pass accepted so was $7.50 a night, had toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, grill, & bear storage box.
Need a 4WD to get up here but the views are breathtaking. Little canyon and animal sightings. Dead carcass of prey abound. No restrooms.
The place itself is great. The camp host is very nice and helpful.
The road past "County maintenance ends" is horrible. Roads in war torn and bombarded cities are better. The road going up towards the campground is as bad or worse. It can be downright dangerous! I made it up with a dually 4x4 pulling a 32 foot 5th wheel in low range, but I wouldn't recommend any trailer over 22' or 4000lbs. It was a terrible mistake relying on Google reviews.
Huge, huge craters about 3'x3' x 16" to 24" deep right at the campground entrance. Some branches need trimming as they can scratch your rig. Only good, calm drivers should try this.
20$ a night. Free dispersed camping up the hill on a still terrible road, we didn't dare go further.
