The cart in campsites are amazing. Very secluded/private! We had site D which was a bit of a hike from the parking lot. It took us 3 trips with the cart to bring everything to the site, but the carts are big and sturdy. We've always camped at drive-in sites in the past, and I gotta say, the beauty and privacy of the cart-in sites are well worth a little extra work. Ample edible berries along the trail--loads of ripe brambles and saskatoons. The mouth of the Baptism River as it flows into Lake Superior is beyond beautiful, and you can Wade in on the lake or river side of the sandbar. There was some severe weather during our visit. Our tent held up well, but it gave us piece of mind to know that the visitor center is open 24 hours in case we needed additional shelter. We can't wait to return again!
Just go and enjoy the beauty in Minnesota. Palisade head and Shovel Point will humble you. And the view of the largest freshwater lake... 😳
Another MN state park hike, always a good time. Did the Shovel point trail. Great views, be prepared for lots of stairs.
Good exposure of rhyolite lava flows, and the typical slow dip to the lake Superior syncline, most apparent when viewed from neighboring Palisade Head.
Google said it was closed....but only entry inside the lighthouse was closed for the season. The museum area and giftshop were open and the grounds.
It was lovely. Beautiful and well kept. It's definitely a must-see for any lighthouse lover.
Nice park. Clean. Helpful staff. Hours are short if you need in-person assistance. The camping spots were nice. We camped during the winter. Restrooms were available which was nice to have available during the winter. Trails okay. Still gotta love Minnesota.
