Because of its remote location, Deadwood Reservoir is quiet and unpopulated, making for great fishing for Atlantic, Chinook and Kokanee salmon, and rainbow and cutthroat trout. Boating, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking are popular on the lake. A boat ramp is located about 2 miles away at Cozy Cove Campground.
Many trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback and ATV riding are in the area.
This primitive campground offers waterfront sites with direct shoreline access. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, but there is no electricity. Roads and parking spurs within the site are dirt.
The campground is situated in a mixed-growth pine forest, which offers plentiful shade. Summer wildflowers are abundant. The entire campground affords views of the reservoir.
From Boise, Idaho, take State Highway 55 north. At Banks, take Highway 17 east (Banks-Lowman Highway) to Lowman. Turn left on Highway 21. Continue along Highway 17 over Banner Summit. Turn west on Forest Road 579. Continue on FR 579 to Deadwood Reservoir.
There is a $5 fee for vehicles entering the campground for day use.
Pretty lame hot spring in my opinion. Definitely not worth the like 10 miles on a rough dirt road plus the 2 hour drive
It's a neat little place. Kids can play in the little lake. It has gold fish in it! Nice place for a picnic.
What a pleasant surprise. We pulled in to check out the spring. The wife got out to gauge the temperature of the water, and to her surprise found it full of small goldfish.
Incidentally, there is a toilet and creek-side camping on the other side of the main road since camping by the spring is discouraged. There is no longer a corral of logs in the center of the spring. The logs have all been displaced to the outer edges of the pond.
What an interesting find!!
It's a very unique place in the middle of nowhere. Filled with goldfish that will come and nibble on you. It was amazing.
