This recreation area is part of Millwood Lake
From l-30 at Texarkana, take U.S. 71 just 19 miles north to Ashdown, then 9 miles east on Hwy. 32 (Visitor Center on left before you get to dam and levee). If traveling west from Saratoga, go 9 miles, cross the dam and levee (3 1/3 miles) to park entrance.
I dislike the fact you can't have your firearm while fishing.. but other than that and the trash like tires in the water, it's a good place to bank fish or drop your boat. I found some lions mane mushroom.. that was cool. My boys got a couple small fish. I will be coming back. Oh, be careful with the gators. They are out there.
I always enjoy visiting the State Park at Millwood. Sometimes, I just drive through the campgrounds just because.. and that's what I did this time. I had my puppy with me. Rolled down the window for him, and we slowly rolled through. Not a soul was camping. It was so quiet... and peaceful. The Canadian Geese were out and about walking around. There was 1 person at the boat ramp that I could see. It's a few dollars more than the other campgrounds but then again it's worth it. They spray for bugs. When we stayed at Cottonshed, on the other side of the lake, the mosquitos were so big they could carry you off. Also you pay for that service. Another one that I like is it is patrolled. The police and game wardens drive through to check the scene
This is a great park to bring your trailer or tent to stay in and enjoy the nature that's all around us from beautiful looking and sounding bird sounds. Also the many great tall healthy pine trees are amazing to see. The staff there are very nice too.
