Desert View Campground lies beneath a mixture of Pinyon and Juniper trees, providing most campsites with ample shade. The campground is less than 1/2 mile from the rim of the canyon. A visit to the canyon during sunrise and sunset yields spectacular views of yellow, orange, red and violet hues in the canyon walls. Layers of rock display billions of years of geologic history. Campers can take a short from the campground to the historic Desert View Watchtower. Visitors can see the mighty Colorado River, which flows 277 miles through the bottom of the canyon. Wildlife abounds on the South Rim, including elk, mule deer, coyotes, lizards, songbirds and the endangered California condor. Although condors nest below the rim, they can be seen soaring several thousand feet above the canyon in search for carrion.
• Desert View provides one of the widest views of Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert. The Desert View Watchtower displays the talent of architect Mary Jane Colter. Tusayan Ruin and Museum provide glimpses into the life of a small Ancestral Puebloan village 800 years ago. Both are within 5 miles from the campground.

This camp site is great! The staff there are super friendly and helpful. The bathroom was always clean and stocked with toilet paper and soap. The view of the Grand Canyon that is only a short 2 minute walk away from the camp site was amazing! The only drawback is there is no showers at this location, you have to drive to the village 30 minutes away.
We enjoyed our single night here. We arrived as the sun was setting and left early... We were here for the Grand Canyon you know! Our camp space was close to the restroom (I reserved this spot for that reason). The Camp Hosts came over to greet us upon our arrival and pointed where would be a good place to set up our tent without crushing the beautiful native flora. We packed up early and heading towards Watch Tower and followed the South Rim. We decided we want to come back for a longer visit for the Grand Canyon and decided we would most certainly stay reserve at Desert View Campground again!
Excellent location, but the toilets are very unclean. They also advocate saving water at the taps and yet the toilet bowls are the biggest I saw in the USA.
We booked a spot for an RV of 25', and it barely fit in its place.
Such a great area to be in! Not going to lie when reading about this campground through the NPS app it said there would be no cell phone service, but we most definitely had phone service! All NP rangers were extremely kind, knowledgeable and helpful! Wish we could have been in the watch tower at some point but that's okay, the views and structures of the area were amazing and breathtaking. The view of the night sky from our campground was astounding as well.
Conveniently located near the east entrance. No reservations. First come, first serve. A short walk to the market and Watchtower. Restrooms are clean, with running water. No showers tho. Had to do the bird bath thing. The campground was clean and spacious. There were all sorts of critters about, so be sure to store all your food in the bin or else. It was cold at night, but the stars and a nice campfire more than made up for it. Woke up early and grabbed my sleeping bag so that I was nice and cozy watching the sun rise from the rim, which was just a few hundred feet from our campsite.
