About Campground

Buck's Pocket State Park reopened on June 16th, 2021 with a renovated campground and a new ORV(Off-Road Vehicles) trail. These amenities create a family-friendly destination for campers, off-road enthusiasts, and vacationers. This is an exciting time for the Alabama State Parks and our park visitors. Please follow the Buck's Pocket State Park FB page to keep up with all the current events at the park.

The campground features 23 campsites with 13 of those being sewer hook-up sites, 4 of those being pull-through sites, and all of those providing water and electricity. Each of these sites features a 16' x 60' concrete camper pad, picnic table, fire pit, and grill. There are also 11 primitive campsites located within the interior of the campground and more planned for the future. Backcountry sites are also planned for the future. Very quiet campground that has been completely redone over the last 2 or 3 years. With only 23 spaces available, your neighbors aren't stacked up on top of you. A little over half are full hook-ups and the rest primitive camping. A couple of good hiking trails, with one leading you up to Point Rock. Several ATV trails as well.

I visited this state park recently with my kids. I am thankful that the Alabama State Parks work to make sure that each park has Internet access and free Wifi. So T-Mobile didn't have a signal in several areas in this part of the park, but the Wifi helped tremendously. I loved the views at this park. They were incredible and the leaves changing was a nice touch😁

Large concrete pads for RV with hookups. Primitive tent sites too. Creek curves around and can be heard throughout campground. Camp hosts excellent. Very clean everywhere. We hiked the pointe bring hiking poles, walking sticks. Really set up for kayak and ORV trails busier on weekends

Small. Quiet. Intimate. Peaceful. Beautiful. If any of these words are important to you, you MUST visit Alabama Buck’s Pocket State Park Campground. Only 23 (improved) campsites, about half of which are sewer sites, and 11 primitive sites. All level, well spaced and fully treed. The deep stony creek bed that runs through the pocket is dry most of the year, but runs fast and deep during the rainy season (January-March). This is a truly beautiful, natural and unspoiled place. The camp store is small, quaint and charming but it doesn’t stock much, so bring what you need. It also serves as the only bathouse, and it is large and clean. The pavilion is very nice and can host a lot of folks for a variety of events. Definitely ride up to the bluffs on a clear day. Breathtaking. It’s only a short drive. It’s an even shorter hike if you think you can do 500 feet of elevation in 1.14 miles (phew!). Rappelling is even allowed (STRICTLY BY PERMIT), and there is even a class offered for beginners. The playground area is very basic, but clean and in good repair. This park is meant to appreciate the outdoors, so that’s what it has over any other amenities. The park also hosts a large complex of ATV trails and is home to lots of group and ATV club events. Contact the campground office directly for more info on those! Lastly, understand that all of this unspoiled nature comes with remoteness. It’s about 8 miles to the nearest Dollar General. And be prepared for a STEEP CURVY ROAD coming in and out. It’s nerve racking, especially if you’re a bigger rig. But trust me, it’s more than worth it for this beautiful charming retreat.

Nice and quiet. Various trails, picnic areas, ATV trails, cute campground / main office area. We stopped by for half a day and it felt like plenty of time without being rushed or bored.

One hike we did was Point Rock Trail. There was a section that was a bit steep and rocky. Found a walking stick to help stabilize my footing though. Some woman passed me while carrying a baby and a toddler strapped to her back… Hard to say if she’s that good or I’m that bad.
