Campsite: Martin Creek Lake State Park

This is a pretty little gem in East Texas. It’s not a huge park as far as State Parks go but it offers an outdoorsy feel. Awesome place to fish and hike and you get some beautiful colors during the Autumn season as well. I found the water to be a little too murky for my personal taste for swimming but many other people seem to enjoy it. Me and my family enjoyed hiking here mostly and I enjoyed bringing my camera out for sunsets and portraits. I saw deer and armadillo here! There is a small playground my kids enjoyed and although we never used them, the cabins look cozy and inviting next to the lake for primitive camping. Bathrooms are clean and well kept and the park is usually pretty clean. All in all a fun place to explore and spend some time if you love the outdoors. (It probably goes without saying - bring insect repellent, the mosquitos are CRAZY!!)

Campsite: Lakeside Day Use

We love this area of Lake O Pines. What a glorious spot to see the sun setting on the lake. Driving down the road towards the lake you’ll see the sun hanging like a ball of fire through the trees. Plenty of picnic tables, very clean area, bathrooms have been clean every time we’ve went. The only downside is that it is a very popular place and it’s really busy on the weekends. In the fall it wasn’t nearly as bad but summer time is popping! Definitely worth visiting for boating, grilling, picnic and family time.
