Campsite: The Crossings Campground

I’m comfortable with the Airbnb style online only service concept. On the website you “agree” to pay the $5 reservation fee, but you are allowed to waive it at a later step; for example because you have already arrived. You can imagine my disappointment after entering the discount code for Passport America and finding it doesn’t work. The price is double what it should be. Some places state up front that the rate is only accepted for one night. It’s possible this place does that and simply doesn’t tell you that and there is no way to find out since you can’t talk to anyone. The phone number provides the message that it’s online only and does not take messages. I left in frustration although perhaps I should have stayed until such time as someone arrived to take the proper payment in person. Perhaps you receive the Wi-Fi password with the confirmation email, but I wouldn’t trust it given the lack of forethought with the rest of this online setup.

The park is basically a field with utility connections. Be cautious about driving through to a spot because you could run over a sewer hookup in the grass. They aren’t marked and somewhat difficult to see. It would be pretty tight accommodations if full, but there were only 3 occupied sites when I drove through midweek.

Campsite: 277 North Campground — Amistad National Recreation Area

With the interagency pass the camping fee is $6 a night (normal fee, but no entry fee). The disability pass allows you to camp for $3. This site has 8 to 10 sites. A long walk to get a glimpse of the water. You are not launching kayaks from this spot with today's water levels. There were 4 to 5 people here in early February. Garbage service no other utilities.

Campsite: Double M RV Park

At present this is a park with about 12 spots, but there are another 24 or so that seem to be recently built but blocked off at the moment. It's a gravel surface with some spaces having concrete pads. Wi-Fi worked well for me. The clubhouse is huge with a nice TV and a bowflex that I didn't notice until the last day. Bathroom is a single private unit and immaculately clean. I stayed a week for $125 and found good value here. Residents seem to be full time here.
