I visited Sundew Campground on 6-8-2019 to look for a place to tent camp later in the summer. Because of the late spring snow, the campground was not yet open for the season and no one was there. The one-way road loops through camp like a figure-eight. All campsites have a paved parking spur, but because the campground is nestled on a hillside, most are narrow and not level front to rear (I have a 19 ft. trailer and would probably not bring it here). The campsites by the water have some flat spaces, but at most sites I had to really look to find a clear, level area for setting a tent. The amenities are standard USFS: wooden tables, fire rings and “bear boxes” for food storage at each site. There are two concrete double restroom buildings for the camp and water faucets here and there along the road. There is a reserved space by the entrance for a camp host. All sites are first-come, first-served, with the “iron ranger” fee deposit pipe by the bulletin board. There are plenty of trees throughout the campground, but a lot of manzanita and buck brush in the northern part around the restroom that leaves me thinking that this section of the campground was never fully developed. Except for the view of the lake, I was not too impressed with Sundew. I give it a star for being on a lake, a star for the view and a star for looking clean.
