Really enjoyed our site by the shore. Camp host was very friendly and we enjoyed our wkend
Nice, beautiful campground, but beware of the host this year. Seems to cater to certain people and race. Try’s to use Authority as a ranger or law then what a camp host actually has. A complaint has been put in concerning all of this. I couldn’t give it more then one star because of this! Please report if you find yourself in the same position, and hopefully you can enjoy Sundew without the hassle.
I visited Sundew Campground on 6-8-2019 to look for a place to tent camp later in the summer. Because of the late spring snow, the campground was not yet open for the season and no one was there. The one-way road loops through camp like a figure-eight. All campsites have a paved parking spur, but because the campground is nestled on a hillside, most are narrow and not level front to rear (I have a 19 ft. trailer and would probably not bring it here). The campsites by the water have some flat spaces, but at most sites I had to really look to find a clear, level area for setting a tent. The amenities are standard USFS: wooden tables, fire rings and “bear boxes” for food storage at each site. There are two concrete double restroom buildings for the camp and water faucets here and there along the road. There is a reserved space by the entrance for a camp host. All sites are first-come, first-served, with the “iron ranger” fee deposit pipe by the bulletin board. There are plenty of trees throughout the campground, but a lot of manzanita and buck brush in the northern part around the restroom that leaves me thinking that this section of the campground was never fully developed. Except for the view of the lake, I was not too impressed with Sundew. I give it a star for being on a lake, a star for the view and a star for looking clean.
Really love this year's camp host. She is absolutely lovely, and welcomes you with such a big smile! The area around the campground is burned, sadly. But the campground itself is lovely and has beautiful (unburned) trees! The sites on the water are awesome, albeit on a slope. Love this place!
This is the cleanest I have ever seen this campground and they even rake before people check in. The grounds bushes have been trimmed up nicely as well. The restrooms were clean and the smell of pine helps to mask the sewage. The camp hosts were the absolute best! Thank you Mike and Jeni for a great experience! So nice and helpful and hard working. Best place to camp 100%!
