The mapped beds contain beautiful mahogany obsidian. There are other obsidian outcrops in the area with a variety of types. Many sites are visible in Google Maps satellite view. If you like nice rock specimens, this is a great place to visit. Most of the area roads are good enough for passenger cars in dry weather, but keep an eye out for rocks and washouts.
Fossil Mtn. is a famous locality for Paleozoic marine fossils and on many paleontologist's bucket list. You can climb the mountain and see a variety of early life in the different rock layers. Fossils can also be found in the surrounding washes. The Blind Valley Road near the site is pretty rough and not really good for average cars. SUVs with good clearance should be OK, but watch out for washouts and bedrock protrusions in the road.
