Maybe I should give more stars, because this is really a very nice little park. Roomy pull-through sites in a garden like setting. But the bathhouse, playground, and dump station are out of service. Perhaps I just have the unfortunate timing of coming after some infrastructure disaster. Very nice porta-potties are in place.
Like most parks, pets on leash, and not allowed in buildings. There is a playground, but it is roped off and closed without explanation. There are some picnic areas as well for day use. The museum is very nice, there is an informative video and many artifacts from the days this land was a military fort. It seems this was formerly designated as an International Peace Garden and there is a nice garden with walking paths through the hill which once served as a lookout tower for the camp. You can see Gambel's Quail and other birds here.
At&t coverage was 5 bars, 5 television stations and several radio stations were available. No wifi. Gas nearby.
There are numerous trails of all levels of difficulty. Great views. The interpretive programs were terrific and frequent, one or two programs per day normally, and geared towards all ages. Close to several cute towns, McDonald Observatory, and Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute. Campsite was in great condition. Bird blinds are the best I've seen anywhere, complete with water features, feeding stations with various foods to attract a wide array of species, seating, shelter, and resources for bird identification.
Great park for camping, with lots of wildlife, despite being in a city. Campground was nicely paved and level, facilities clean, trails well marked, and ranger led nature programs on the weekends. This park gets lots of day use as well, fishing is a popular activity. Convenient to shopping if needed. There is some playground equipment, leashed-dog friendly, lots of lakeside picnic tables, and restrooms are well spaced through the park, so that even if you go on quite a long hike, you are always less than a mile from a restroom.
Falcon is a great place for rv camping, birding, and though the lake is low...people seem to be fishing. The roads are free of pot-holes and pavement damage that many campgrounds are riddled with. The hookups are clean and in good repair, sites level. Trails for hiking are not extensive, a 2-3 mile loop with a few side trails. You can cover them in a few hours, but the bird feeding stations, blinds, butterfly garden make each hike quite different in the wildlife you might see. Great area for older kids/teens who might enjoy exploring something bigger than a playground, but not such a big place they could get truly lost.
Restrooms were clean with hot water, leashed-dog friendly. The picnic areas for day use are very nice, many have water. It is obvious they are not right on the lake anymore due to falling water levels, but still very scenic. There is not a playground to my knowledge, but the rec center has a library of sorts with books to loan and reference materials on the local flora and fauna. I believe they have coffee and pastries on occasion.
Park personnel are friendly and informative. All my time at Texas state parks has been great.
