Campsite: Thousand Trails Moody Beach

While we enjoyed this campground overall, we definitely did not love our specific site which was a giant mud pit and was a pretty tight squeeze getting in and out. Ultimately, the park itself was nice, most the staff were friendly, roads getting TO the park were nice, pool was typical. The new section of the park is definitely an upgrade. We struggled finding 50a service, but finally did in the muddy site.

Some of the staff were not the most helpful and it seemed like there were definite communication issues going on between staff members because no one really seemed to know what was going on.

If we knew we were going to get in the newer area we’d have no issues staying here again, but because it’s first come first served and you can’t reserve a spot we may consider other places before this one .

Campsite: Parowan Gap Petroglyphs

The Parowan Gap Petroglyphs is an incredibly interesting location with well preserved ancient petroglyphs that are very clear and easy to see.

The walk from the parking lot on the east is a mild and quick walk that goes right past some very clear imagery. We’ve stopped here on multiple road trips with the kids and with the grandparents. Everyone loves this little piece of history.

There is, unfortunately, a bit of vandalism primarily from before this location began to be protected.

Just 15 minutes or so off the freeway makes this a great stop for anyone passing through. Definitely worth the stop!

Don’t forget to sign the visitors log book at the start of the trail from the east parking lot.

Campsite: Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area CG

I’m not sure when this park is ever busy. It’s such a beautiful location and not far from St. George Utah for any essentials if needed. When we were there we only saw one other vehicle in the entire park meaning we basically had the entire place to ourselves. It’s so secluded, yet right off the interstate.

We could hear a little of the traffic noise, but that really didn’t bother us at all. The scenery here is amazing and the river is beautiful as it flows through this gorge.

Many sites do require a reservation, but plenty are first come first serve.

Well worth the stop for a few days.
