Campsite: Steinaker State Park

Just spent five nights here. Great place to jump off to see other areas around the basin. The campground was very quiet at night. Bathrooms were very clean. They even had four separate shower stalls behind the bathrooms, two of which were closed while we were there, I’m guessing due to low water and low water pressure. The hosts were friendly and the staff in the booth were great. Especially the weekend lady. She was super friendly and gave us great tips of things to do around the area. To those who have complained about the water level, that really has nothing to do with the campground. Every reservoir in the state is below 30% capacity. Of course the beach will be muddy and the parking lot will be a long way from the water. The only issue we had was with booking. That is of course handled by reserve America not the park. The site we initially reserved was tiny, even though we entered the length of our trailer. It was more of a tent site. Fortunately the lady up front switched us to a nice pull through site. If you have a long vehicle make sure you are booking a pull through not a back in.

Campsite: Red Fleet State Park

Great little reservoir to spend the day on. I’d recommend camping at nearby Steinaker state park though. We decided to book our trip that way based on what the campground looks like online and am sure glad we did. The camping here at Red Fleet is akin to sleeping in a Walmart parking lot. Rows of paved stalls packed together like sardines. Not sure what the thought process was there.

The lake on the other hand was amazing. We spent two days here exploring. The first day we hiked in from the backside to the dinosaur tracks. Wear your swimsuit if you do. There’s a great spot to jump in the water at the end of the hike. The second day we brought our paddle boards back and launched them from the boat launch. We spent the day exploring the lake. The water even though very low was still cool and clear. As others have said it’s kind of like a mini lake Powell. We will be back.
