Campsite: St. Bernard State Park
What a wonderful 4 nights of tent camping we had here! Campground done right!
Quiet and safe. Locked gate at night.
Travel to downtown New Orleans is easy if you drive around the Mississippi and/or fun if you take the ferry over to Belle Chase! $1.00
We did both from here and explored beyond the city as well.
The staff were helpful. The laundry room was great. Showers were hot and the site had water AND electrical for around $20. a night depending on how many nights you stay. It’s cheaper for more nights.
Obviously, we would not tent camp here in the warm season! Bugs were okay in December. The owls were vocal every night and plentiful. Armadillos scurried through the vegetation at night and coons crawling all over our truck! Lol. This is a great park!
Campsite: Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground
What a great educational experience. When combined with a fun guide like Don, (all the guides are retired miners)this is a good use of time and makes me appreciate what coal miners had to endure to keep this country going. I highly recommend!
