Beautiful and mostly peaceful lake for kayaking and paddleboarding! Lake is clear water, not deep so in mid-July the water was very nice. No sand beach but the "beach" area is shaded by large pine trees. It's a bit of a walk from parking lot to the main beach area so if you're resourceful, pack your stuff on your kayak or paddleboard and paddle it over instead of carrying it by hand.
The setting of the lake is gorgeous. Tall cliffs all around, wildflowers abound. When the parking lot is full they'll make you wait until a spot opens up, we arrived about 1230pm on a hot Saturday afternoon and only had to wait about 15 minutes.
Because the lake is surrounded by the mountains, sound echoes, so it's not super peaceful when it's packed with kids and many families. But late in the day it was quiet and nice. Not annoying even at the busiest time of day however.
