Campsite: Garin Regional Park

Went in on a Monday morning, very quiet. Walked a bit and enjoyed the view.

Campsite: Cleburne State Park

First time visit. Went on a weekday so no crowds. Lots of great hiking trails. Be prepared and pre download maps and your favorite GPS ap. Most of the trails are well marked but there are a lot of “extra” trails that aren’t mapped, so know where you are going. We did the Spillway trail and it was moderate with lots of up and down elevation changes and we were rewarded with beautiful views of the water cascading over the spillway. Park staff were friendly and helpful. Restrooms were clean. I highly recommend this Texas State Park!

Campsite: Canyon of the Eagles Lodge & Nature Park

Took my wife to the restaurant for Valentines day. They had a special menu for this occasion and offered limited choices. It took us an hour and 40 minutes to drive there and we arrived a little bit earlier than our reservation. The restaurant wasn't very full and we saw a table for 2 that we asked to sit at but were told we could sit anywhere but at that table. Once we were seated they explained the menu and we gave our order. Bread and our drinks were brought out first. The tea had an off flavor and was undrinkable, so switched to soda. The bread? well, it was hard as a rock, the kind of bread that is really dry on the outside and rained crumbs all over the table when attempting to cut it. Not the kind of bread that should accompany a hundred dollar meal. My Wild Prawn Ceviche was good, my wifes squash soup was not. We both had the Prime Strip loin and it was OK, not great, but OK. Both were overcooked though. The desert, Chocolate Cream Pie didn't match the rest of the meal. It was large and heavy, so we shared one. I think a nice slice of cheesecake would have been better suited for the meal. Although the service was great, the food was lacking. We don't usually go out for Valentines day for this very reason.

Campsite: Fort Boggy State Park

Very nice state park! We came here because it was on the list of least visited state parks, so we decided to check it out! Arrived on a Wednesday around noon and set off on a hike. The trails are well maintained but not well marked, so take a picture of the kiosk map or take a park map with you. Really, the trails are short, so not much chance of getting lost. When we finished our hike I grilled some lunch and relaxed while enjoying nature. We enjoyed our day at Fort Boggy! Facilities are clean and well maintained. Staff are warm and inviting. We enjoyed it so much that when we got home we reserved a cabin to take our grandson camping when the weather warms up a bit. I highly recommend Fort Boggy State Park.

Campsite: McKinney Falls State Park

First time here. Came to see the falls, do some hiking, and have some lunch. Visited on a Tuesday, so park was pretty empty. Interpretive center was closed (only open Fri-Sun). Park is very well kept, hiking trails well marked, and map kiosks well placed. There were plenty of restrooms and they were clean and maintained. There are several picnic areas, so we chose one down from the upper falls and cooked some steaks and corn which we enjoyed before heading home. I highly recommend this park!
