I'm not exactly sure how I would rate a primitive campground. We were there on a cold rainy weekend at the end of October, so needless to say, we were alone. There is a paved forest service road only a couple hundred feet (or less depending on the site you choose), but while we were there, I don't recall seeing or hearing another car. The sites are flat and there are grill/fire pits and picnic tables at each site, and a pit toilet at one end. There are gates at either end that are locked. Call the Forest Service to request a reservation ($10 a night) and get the lock combination. I will say this, make sure you have a flashlight and patience to unlock the gates. I have a small trailer that I pull with my jeep and I am useless backing up, so pull through sites are perfect for me. If you have the chance to camp here in late October, this is a stunning area in Autumn. The colors were beautiful. I live in Western NC, and this is only 20 miles from my home and this is why I moved here from NJ.
