I'm a traveling nurse. My husband and 3 year old travel with me. We usually live in our RV and over the last 2 1/2 years we've stayed in a number of camp grounds. This is the first review I've posted.
We really enjoyed our stay at Stoney Fork Creek Campground. We stayed over a 6 month period. The campground is separated by Pisgah highway. The word highway might make you think of a noisy road but it's not. Barely any traffic. It does lead you up to the parkway, to beautiful trails and scenic outlooks. The long term campers are opposite the creekside part of the camp ground. The road is gravel, well maintained, nice flat sites for any size camper. We have a 41 ft 5th wheel and had more than enough room for two vehicles as well. Looking out our window is a view of the mountains. We've enjoyed watching the colors change and the beauty of misty mornings, watching the fog travel over the mountains. Very quiet camp ground. As mentioned not very commercial with a few amenities. There's a picnic table, some sites have fire pits, and a dumpster, but it was perfect for our needs. Dan the owner is amazing. Easy to talk to, helpful and considerate.
This campground is close to anything you could want to do in Asheville. It was very convenient. Great restaurants, parks, and nature.
On a side note there's a dinner up the road called 151, a very local type place. Decent very inexpensive food. Our family of 3 could eat a meal under 20 dollars. Great hometown atmosphere.
Would definitely stay here again. A few things I would recommend that may be a little bit of a drive on the parkway but we'll worth it. Graveyard feilds is about a 30-40 min drive along the parkway. Crystal clear streams and a couple waterfalls. Craggy Gardens is another spot along the parkway, has a nice easy walk filled with mountain laurels, if you can catch them when they are blooming it is beautiful. Pisgah mountain is not far at all, but beware it is a steep hike, my 3 year old did pretty good but it is more than I'm use to, of course when you get to the top the view is worth it.
Hope this helps someone.
