I hiked the Hawks Ridge Loop trail, and it was excellent.
Very remote and secluded area, so you’ll have plenty of solitude (and likely no cell signal) on this hike.
The western section of the trail has all the expansive views, so take the loop counterclockwise to save them for last. Or just do an out-and-back, as the rest of the loop isn’t very scenic. Clean and maintained. The open ridge section is exceptionally scenic.
The gravel forest road heading in is easily taken in a car. A few deep bit avoidable potholes and some washboard sections, but nothing extreme.
[GPS tried to take me down an incorrect road, near “Cheat Mountain Club”. You want to take forest road 227 heading South off of route 250.]
