Atherton Creek Campground is located on Lower Slide Lake. This is a beautiful and quiet camping location where you can quickly and easily get away from the hustle and bustle of Grand Teton National Park and Jackson, but still access those places in less than 30 minutes if you wish. The road access is paved up to the campground and winds through aspen stands with gorgeous views of the Gros Ventre River. Boat and fishing access are excellent for Lower Slide Lake, allowing for great trout fishing and peaceful evenings floating around looking for wildlife.
Starting from the Town of Jackson, Wyoming, head North on United States Highway 189 (US-189 same as North Cache Street) traveling about 7 miles, then make a right turn onto Lower Gros Ventre Road for about 8 miles, you will be passing through the town of Kelly, Wyoming, then make a right on Gros Ventre River Road (Forest Road 30400). Travel on the Gros Ventre River Road for approximately 6 miles where you will see signage for Atherton Creek Campground on the right. Approximate travel details from the Town of Jackson: 21 miles, 32 minutes.
Quiet, peaceful and beautiful. Sites are well separated by trees, but still open enough to see the clear Wyoming sky! Situated on a small lake, with a boat launch next to the campground, and less than an hour away from Grand Teton National Park! Much faster if you don't mind driving a very bumpy road to get here; I don't have a 4WD but got to the edge of the park in about 20 minutes.
The only other thing that makes this less than perfect is that you can't see the range -but gorgeous views are only a five minute drive away.
I'm here on a Friday at the end of August, and the 22 official sites plus a few overflow sites weren't full until evening.
A very nice alternative to the very crowded campgrounds within the park!
It's a bit of a drive if you're in Grand Teton National Park but a nice spot to have a picnic or play in the water. It was fairly busy even though we were there mid-day during the week. There is a toilet on site and easy access to play in the water. The view of the ranch across the way is stunning.
Geeeeeezooooos I’m so glad I took the “trek” in. I really loved this place, enough shade during the day and very close to the lake which is suuuuper refreshing. My pup loved it too. Met some great people and called it an early night. It was quiet at night being so far off the beaten path but views going in and back out were just yes.
Great campground! We didn't reserve beforehand and were glad we found it. A bit off the beaten path and construction made it A LOT longer of a drive to get to our destinations, but overall great. Great space with fire pits and firewood for sale. Cleaner outhouse bathrooms than I've seen, so I was so grateful for that! There are bears around so be very careful about taking care of all your food and such, even other...odorous things. Right by the lake with gorgeous views. $15 per car per night, and extra for more than one car.
Great spot. Very dog friendly. Fills up on the weekends but more spots further up the road. Lots of flies currently. Worse than the 🦟 that were also around. Friendly camp host and camp neighbors. Minimal to no cell service. Clean bathrooms and water access. Lake was great for paddleboards in the am but got windy.
