Great place! There are trees at the campgrounds. Lots to explore! Rolling dunes for miles.
A family favorite place for playing in the dunes. Watch out for off-road vehicles by staying inside the roped off area or else avoid areas with blind corners or night-time play.
While the nature itself is vast and beautiful, most of the campsites have been damaged by people. The slats of some tables have been ripped off and probably used as firewood. There’s broken glass nearly everywhere from beer bottles. There’s several million rusty nails and screws littering the dunes, leftover from people burning pallets and random scrap wood. Also broken parts from motorcycles and other vehicles. It’s a beautiful place but careless weekend warriors have left their mark.
We love this place! Great year round adventure destination. The cost is a bit obsurd given that no facilities are open or anything, but I guess we just keep paying it... Oh well.
The sand can be deep in places, but mostly it's a very manageable place for all levels. Just be careful about riding if dunes. Gotta look before you leap! So many people get hurt here by not paying attention.
We went in May and the weather was good. Some rain but made the sand wet and not so deep the next day. We had 20 people in our group and our campsite had the sand dunes in our backyard. Perfect for the kids to plan. There are campsites you could easily fit 100+ people. The campground has water available at different locations throughout the campground, except in the winter time.
