About Campground

Wawaloam, named after a Nipmuck Native American Princess, is truly a family affair. In 1969, Jim and Maureen Smith began their dream of running a successful vacation destination for campers visiting the Southern New England area. Nearly fifty years and three generations later, Wawaloam has become a favorite place for campers of all ages.

Families love the fact that Wawaloam includes 3 children in our base rate. Isn’t that what family camping is all about? Wawaloam also welcomes well-behaved pets for a small fee of $5 per night. After all, we’re animal lovers, too! Everyone is encouraged to participate in the various activities Wawaloam has to offer: from crafts to dances, movies to mini golf, Wawaloam has activities for everyone in your family. Wawaloam has become famous for our Friday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast menus. Our head chef Jim uses local produce and seafood right off the boat in Galilee! Wawaloam has the most spacious sites around and we’re top-rated in the Good Sam Directory and on TripAdvisor. We take pride in our campground and it shows!

Directions

Take Route 95 (N or S) to Exit 5A. Bear right onto Route 3, then left at the lights onto Route 102 South. Drive 1.5 miles and turn right onto Town Hall Road at Wawaloam Elementary School. Follow Gardiner Road 1.5 miles to Wawaloam on the right.

Our friends are staying at the campground and we went for part of the day to visit them. It's clean, lots of space for the camp sites, lots of things for kids to do on their own (splash pad, pool, water slides, playground, mini golf, basketball court) and there are even organized activities. The kid at the check-in was really nice too. Day passes for guests cost $10 per adult.

We just got back from our week long stay at Wawaloam and can honestly say I am homesick - I already want to go back!! The campground was so much fun, clean, loaded with kid friendly activities. The staff was extremely friendly and helped salvage our week with an unexpected issue we had with our rig mid-week. Had it not been for their expertise and care, we would’ve been forced to cut our week short. We truly felt like family there. This is truly a RI gem!!

Thank you Wawaloam, see you in August for our next trip!!

Love Wawaloam. Just spend a month there and it was fantastic. Staff is great. I asked Wendy so many questions and she answered all of them right away. Sites are very big. So much to do for the kids. My grandchildren loved it. They have a huge pool, splash pad, water slides and mini golf and activities for the kids and adults. We’ve been to a few and we loved this one the best and my grandchildren voted for this one too.

On a good note it is a very beautiful campground with very spacious spots very quiet also. I even told my husband this is the best campground we've ever been to. we are leaving tomorrow morning on September 14th 2023 because hurricane Lee is going to hit Rhode Island. we are from Pennsylvania we've never been in a hurricane and we wanted to get back home early. they told us at the office that they would not refund our money for the 3 days we were giving up but we could have a refund but it's only good to the end of October. that's a lot of money to us about $195 so they are keeping our money because we wanted to be safe. that is totally wrong. This is a very nice campground. That being said I was very unhappy having to pay $20.00 to enter the property to have dinner with friends that were camping there, friends that already paid to use the space. I know if there is a response to this review it will be to the effect "the fee covers all the amenities that the park offers". We arrived at dinner time as a group of older adults for dinner. There were no amenities being used, not even a bathroom as our friends have them in their campers. A $5.00 fee would have been appropriate and understood. This policy really needs a common sense review, at this point is is a money grab. Edit** I received a response from the owner and Google would not give me an option to reply, hence my edit- Their response did not address my concern. Clearly stated policies would be posted on their website not emailed to their campers during their stay. The woman at the gate told us that they emailed the campers that day not prior to arrival as stated in their response. Putting the onus on their guests further demonstrates their lack of care. Never have we had to pay to visit with friends for dinner at a campground. Hopefully this policy will be modified for future visitors as it it truly a money grab.
