From Cle Elum, WA, take State Rt. 903, which becomes State Rt. 970 East, then U.S. Rt. 97 North, and go 19.9 miles to Forest Rt. 9711 sign. Turn right at sign onto Forest Rt. 9711 (gravel) and go 6.4 miles to a "T" intersection. Turn left onto Forest Rt. 9712 (gravel) and go 4.7 miles to campground on left.
We just drove in to check it out on our way on their Jeep ride, it was nice! it was set up great they got a nice place there. I would put me up some trail cameras because I seen things there that probably won't stay there, because there's been signed stolen everywhere we go we see that happened Trail signs and stuff people take but I've never seen a nicer setup thing what is there.
The gravel road getting there was in bad shape, deep pot holes, etc.. There were some dangerous areas with a few steep drop offs and very few shoulder areas to get over for oncoming traffic. Taking a truck/camper or large gooseneck LQ trailer is risky. The campsite itself is very nice and quiet. Would come back if road was repaired and safer. I would rate the campsite as 4-5 stars and the road 0 stars. I believe there is another way to get there coming from Ellensburg that would be a better option. We came up from Blewetts Pass.
Went yesterday and there is no way to get a horse trailer in there unless you take a chain saw to cut all of the down trees and there is a lot in the burn area. Could barely get a truck in. The camp spot is ok. It is primitive but has some nice views. Looks like it would be a nice place with some work.
Visited the site in early June. The road from 97 is a well maintained gravel road with some spectacular views along the way. Areas of previous fires have left lots of standing deadwood which now looks like something from a sci-fi movie. The campsite is decent but the surrounding area is amazing. Lots of great hiking and exploring as well as access to some fun 4 wheel drive trails like 4W312.
If you follow NF-9712, it says it is 21 miles to Wenatchee, but in early June, we ran it for around 10 miles and then hit snow....lots of snow.
