From Richland - Drive east on highway 240 for 9.7 miles to Horn Road/Highway 225. Turn left (south) and follow for 0.7 miles to the entrance to Horn Rapids Park and Campground
Park is clean and maintained. Swimming is questionable, nasty water. Shower gets scalding hot and won't turn down, friend came back to the RV with red doing and shampoo in her hair. Sunrise and sunsets are gorgeous and picturesque especially with the tree in the middle. Its a quick walk to the river/boat ramp.
I wouldn't stop here again for fun but I'd happily stop here again if I was traveling through.
What a 💎. Water and 50A for $25 a night. T Mobile is unworkable. AT&T is solid. Use the Antenna Point app and a directional MiMo on a 16' pole for solid stremable signal. 14 day stay permitted.
Awful campground. Lots of flying insects here. Ants have learned to invade RVs and vehicles. The campground runs it's water sprinklers everyday and it squirts all over your camp. The campground looks and feels like a golf course with it's manicured lawn. The driveway is very narrow making it difficult to back in a trailer. Also, Verizon 4G does not come in here. Considering the $25.00 a night fee, it's not worth it. Note that several of the campsites have broken electrical pedestals, so it's highly likely you'll pull into a site where the electricity is not working.
We were kayaking. The underwater grasses are way out of control but I don't think there is anything you can do about it. We enjoyed the Yakima River once we got into deeper water. Made it easier to paddle. We have been on the river now 4 times. No bathrooms at the boat launch parking but there are bathrooms nearby the camping area and probably picnic tables there too.
Right off 225 between Vantage and West Richland. There is an RC airplane flight area adjacent to the park. There is a pay by night camp ground called horn rapids Rv.thats close by.
The Park itself doesn't have "big toys" or restroom facilities. It's basically primitive dirt roads. There are a few fishing spots. I enjoy the area as it allows me to basically fish the Yakima right out the back of my SUV. I dont have to carry all my gear across a park lol. In the fall there are black walnuts dropped all over. They could be harvested. Ive eaten a few. They aren't bad. The husk and shell are harder then english ones. These ones are tastier ;)..
Note- The area is primitive.
This is 1st class Rattlesnake 🐍 Real estate.
I've personally seen 3 up close.
There is a park bench that offers a visitor a beautiful view of the Yakima River, A quiet place to reflect, eat a sandwich. Maybe even paint the scene. A visitor will see birds of all kinds;
Eagle's, osprey, hawks, cranes, I've even seen hummingbirds!
You get a real sense of peace even a bit of nostalgia. The Yakima River offers great fishing Opportunities, fall salmon, bass, catfish, walleye, etc.
There is no hunting as i understand at the time of writing this. 10-04-23.
