A bit lesser known and undervalued sibling of Monument Valley. This place is magical. You'd need a SUV but if you're a good, experienced driver you'd survive in a better built, medium size car. (Just don't leave the dirt road.) Unusual rock formations, fantastic view, some wildlife - all in all a lifetime experience. A must.
It's a gorgeous scenic drive. Looks ideal for camping. But...
We rode the entire 17 miles on adv motorcycles, and sections of it were a challenge. There are a couple of long stretches of continuous wasboard on the west end, some rocky sections, deep dips, and tight turns on rough descending road. I would not take my car there, but a truck, jeep or suv with good suspension and clearance would do ok, even without 4wd - very little sand, not much chance of getting stuck. It's more about how much punishment the vehicle can take. Most people tend to drive in from the Mexican Hat side, exit at the base of Moki Dugway. Probably best to do it in that direction to avoid trying to share a narrow road with other vehicles.
Road was dry when we rode it, wouldn't attempt in any vehicle if wet.
I fantastic drive through Monument Valley like rock formations. This dirt road is well maintained so it can be driven by cars with even a little bit of clearance. There are also many lovely campsites on the side of the road for dispersed camping. Although there is no shade and fires are not allowed so keep that in mind. Would recommend for a lovely drive or even to stay overnight.
BLM land, well worth a visit. You can spend from two hours to two weeks: it never gets old. See ancient ruins carved out of mountains ! Fascinating. No restrooms, watch pets around the plants.
Stunning. If you're in the area you have to come check out valley of the gods. There are no words to describe how amazing this. I would definitely make sure to come in the off season, while it'll be colder than you will like... There is nobody out here. The absolute silence is profound 👏 The road is rather rough so be prepared and there are not that many places to turn around. Definitely make sure you scout ahead if you're nervous about your car making it.
