About Campground

Because of ongoing problems and uncertainties with the Tentrr platform, we are temporarily closing the ability to book our site. As we decide how to proceed with accepting bookings in 2024, please follow Evensong Farm on social media or our website to stay updated. If you have any questions, please contact us through those channels.

Come share in our appreciation of open space, rolling hills, flowing water, and shady forests. We have carefully selected campsites on our farm that will give you both privacy and sweeping views.

Both of our expansive Tentrr sites are set up with one queen bed with memory foam mattress in the main platform tent, a private "Latrine" building that has a composting toilet and outdoor sun-bag shower, multiple seating areas, a fire pit, a kitchen and picnic area, a kitchen wash area with a foot operated sink. It comes set up ideally for two people but more people can be added by using additional tents (one provided or bring your own).

Autumn Olive is Coleman Outfitted and has some great accessories for our campers to use, including- lanterns, flashlights, camp stove, sling chairs. Also included is a charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid). We provide all of our campers with drinking water, wash water, and a bundle of firewood per night. In the colder months we have a space heater available for the platform tent, although there is a charge for the propane. You will have use of an additional Coleman tent if more tent space is needed for your group. This site can accommodate up to three additional tents if you want to have a gathering with up to 12 people camping together. The first 4 campers are included in our per night fee, a fee will be added for each additional camper.

To make camping a bit more luxurious, and to lighten the amount of things you have to bring with you, we offer extras like bedding, a kitchen kit, a portable power station, and more.

Our guests will be emailed a digital camp guide and guestbook so that they can plan their stay!

Recreation:

The campsites are just a short walk away from the farm's long frontage along the Antietam Creek, a popular creek for floating and canoeing. We have a gathering area by the creek that is available for our campers to enjoy if they would like to relax Creekside. There are businesses nearby that rent tubes, kayaks and canoes or you can bring your own. You can put in or take out at the farm. Floating on the creek is highly recommended!

We are a 10-minute drive from the C&O Tow Path, 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and 20 minutes from Harpers Ferry, WV where you will find companies that offer outdoor experiences like zip-lining and guided raft trips down the Potomac or Shenandoah rivers.

History:

Evensong Farm neighbors the Antietam National Battlefield, which honors the deadliest day in American history. You can walk to parts of the Battlefield from the farm, and the Visitors Center is just a short 5-minute drive away. The historic easements on the property forbid any metal detecting, no exceptions will be made to this restriction.

Food and Activities:

We are a 5-minute drive from Sharpsburg where you will find a store for necessities, a local bakery for your morning donuts and bread and, the establishment that Sharpsburg is most well-known for, Nutters Ice Cream! In the nearby towns of Shepherdstown, WV and Boonsboro, MD, you will find grocery stores, restaurants, quaint shops and seasonal festivals.

The Space:

Evensong Farm is a beautiful piece of preserved history and nature that is nestled in the hills that border Antietam Battlefield and Antietam Creek.

Guest Access:

This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature!

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed or a queen-size bunk bed (see photos for the exact setup). The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that___s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs, and a heating source to keep you warm and toasty at night.

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation.

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

What you should bring:

-S'mores supplies & any food you'd like to eat

-A cooler to keep your grub from spoiling

-Bedding and pillows

Interaction with Guests:

Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location on the property.

If a CampKeeper submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the CampKeeper___s property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Reservation Modifications/Cancellations: Please note the terms of the cancelation policy as they are outlined in your reservation confirmation on Airbnb. Your CampKeeper is unable to change or cancel your reservation on your behalf, and they are unable to waive any cancellation fees (if applicable). If you have any questions regarding your reservation, Tentrr Customer Support can be reached at (888) 798-9093 or at [email protected].

Other Things to Note:

Well-mannered dogs are welcome and should be leashed at all times....

Remember that you will be in nature and it is full of great and interesting living things-furry, crawly and slithery. Along with deer, wild turkey, opossum, herons, and the occasional bald eagle you might also encounter gnats, ticks, spiders, snakes, etc....

Feel free to pick up dead-fall branches and twigs to use in your fire ring. Please do not attempt to remove any standing wood, both for your safety and the health of the forest....

Leave the fire rings where we have placed them and never start a fire within the cedar tree forest. We will alert campers if fire restrictions are put in place by the local authorities....

No smoking in the tents. If you smoke outside, extinguish all butts and take them with you....

You know that novel you've been wanting to write? If you've already done that, how about editing it? In both cases, a common complaint is 'If I only had the time?' But...what if the time isn't the real problem? What if it's the place, a place where you'll get that time? If that is what you're looking for, then I've got GREAT news for you!

My wife and I just spent a week here and we both got a LOT of work done! She managed to edit half of her current novel and I finished editing a book of my short stories.

Ron Tanner has put together the perfect writing retreat. It's quiet, comforting and very accessible.

I like to cook my own meals and the kitchen was a pleasant place to do it. The bottom floor tends to get chilly and there is a decent space heater, but we went with a few packets of firewood from a local store of a major hardware chain.

The Retreat has a nice wood stove and there's just something about being creative in front of a roaring fire that can't be beat.

On our second day there, we booked out next stay.

My only suggestion is that Ron put a calendar on the Retreat's site so we can see what days are available.

And now that I've told you what a s
