From Hwy 49 at Sierra City: Drive 4 1/2 miles to Bassett's Station. Turn left on Gold Lake Hwy and drive 1/2 mile to Packer Lake Road. Turn left and continue 1 1/2 miles to Diablo Campground.
A lot of room, lots of shade and a creek 50 ft near campsites.
Clean bathroom, chopped wood everywhere, and accessible to lakes and rivers
We camp here twice a year, probably more as a tradition since I've been coming to this area since 1960. We always reserve one specific site because it somewhat separates us from the rest of the campers. This is a 'no-frills' campground, no running water, the bathroom is rustic to say the least - it is a for 'real campers' campground. You get a metal fire-pit ring with grill & a picnic table. The new ring installed this year is actually too tall for our liking, it's difficult to enjoy the campfire while seated around it, you have to stand up to do so. But we love coming here because of the scenery, fishing, many lakes, great hiking & mountain biking, & swimming.
Awesome place to camp! Lots of fishing spots as well. Not a lot of bugs like other places I've been to In the night.
Cute campground right by Packer creek which is a very short drive away from Sardine lake. The campsites located by Packer creek has a direct access leading down to the stream. The campgrounds has no running water or flushable toilets. The one vaulted toilet shared amongst everyone at the campsite was very clean. Note that there is no cell reception and very little light pollution which makes it a great place for stargazing.
