Great place to go shooting. Alot of potholes on the road .And quite place to hang out!
Had fun.
Beautiful area. I wish I could have enjoyed it more, but I spent 3 hours biking the most grueling 12 mile bike ride I've ever been on. The 3000 foot relentless elevation gain might have had something to do with it.
Going downhill was even worse. Every muscle in my body was aching by the time I was done. However I can now post some beautiful pictures to social media, praising the trip, cross it off my bucket list, and thank God I never have to go there again.
This place was totally worth driving 3 hrs from Seattle! Unique landscape, half way between mountains and desert. The hike was easy to moderate, with a good part on an old 4x4 trail. Beware of rattle snakes and other species of snake.. we saw 4 in one day!
A couple miles up a very rough Swakane Canyon Road to the gate that prevents you from driving this scenic canyon trail. The hike is steep but the views are amazing. Along the trail in May was all kinds of wildflowers and the trail itself was littered with quartz and interesting rocks. About 3 miles up, the trail turns and continues on along the ridge for what looks like miles, but we stopped, had luck and just enjoyed the views. A fun hike providing great views of the river and surrounding areas.
Beautiful area. Repurposed old FS road so you could go on for days. Turned around at about 7 miles; at that point just wanted to see how high we could get. Excellent trail for wildflowers when the western & central sides of the state are still a good 2 months out.
