I love driving up and down Hwy 212. I always drive up the Slough Creek Trailhead every time I go by it. This year I saw a wolf den and got some beautiful images of Pronghorns. The road is gravel; but, any car can handle it. It is a great hike as well; but, never hike alone in Yellowstone and always bring your bear spray.
Great opportunity for wildlife! Bring bear spray and bug spray. Saw bison, grizzly, deer and marmot. Lots of uphill walking and mosquitos.
We dropped by here in the middle of the day in August, hot summer day. So we couldn’t find any wildlife nearby. Based on one elder fellow’s word, they have witnessed a few wolves in this area in the early morning, and of course there were bunch of other group of people too. The trail requires bear spray when you reach the trail head, please be prepared. I have watched some videos on YouTube for this trail it is nice and there will be a ranger station inside. Will come back next time.
Excellent hike. Went to the first meadow about 2 miles in. We saw a lot of Buffalo and Geese going in. But on the way back we saw a nice big Black Bear. He was about 80 yards away off the trail. Awesome 3 hour hike enjoying nature.
