About Campground

Sierra Inn on the River, located in Kyburz, CA, lives up to the name with the South Fork of the American in our backyard. Perfect for exploring the incredible lakes, trails, and mountains of the El Dorado Forest and Sierra Lake Tahoe Basin.

Our accommodations are located only 20 minutes from Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort and 30 minutes from South Lake Tahoe. Or head the other direction and visit the historic Gold Rush towns along the western Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Inn is a top choice for hikers as they launch into Desolation Wilderness.

Our rooms have either two beds (queen and full) or a king; all with modern amenities including AC, TV with DirecTV, mini-fridges, and microwaves. Rooms are being updated, so reserve a “fully renovated room” if you prefer a room with all new finishes. All rooms are pet friendly (pet fee applies). Our family and pet-friendly rooms are casually appointed for adventures and road-trippers to rest and relax. Or head out back to enjoy a picnic or firepit by the river.

The manager of this hotel is soooo accommodating. She was very helpful getting us a room for the night when the rain put a stop to our Labor Day Camping trip! It is right on a beautiful rushing River. The rooms are simple, but very clean and comfortable. Beds were clean and comfortable. The shower was fantastic, beautiful rain shower with shampoo, conditioner & body wash right in the shower! The on-site crew is friendly. They had a nice fire outside and offered us a beer. We were too cold and tired to join them but it was very nice to offer! Mini fridge and microwave in room, also cable. There is a nice little diner next door, we had coffee and a chia latte. Beautiful scenery, hiking and fishing nearby. About 45-60 minutes from South Lake Tahoe. Very lovely motel! Without the crazy resort town price tag!

Hidden Gem Alert!!!!

This place is a true Motel in the classic sense, but with nice modern touches.

Nice modern bathrooms available

- with retro heat fan for that “i am warm” touch

TV with Direct TV.

Refrigerator (decent size)

Microwave.

Coffee Maker

Nice closet space (with hangars!!!)

Comfortable bed (firm-ish foam bed)

Has a portable AC unit and a wall furnace.

Check in was super easy. Owner/operator was pleasant. Check out was a drop box.

Wanna know the bad parts? Is that why you are reading this review this far….ok…here goes.

1. Use your GPS and slow down, or you will miss it driving east on Hwy 50. Very sharp turn into the lot.

2. Bring food. Other than a ramen joint west about 5 mins, there is no food nearby for dinner. We drove to Pollock Pines, ate pizza and stocked up at the Safeway.

That’s it. Those are the bad parts…..and those were to be expected given its location.

This is a great find. I will stay here often. See you there!

Very clean and well maintained. I wish they had service after hours. The location is a bit far from Tahoe if that’s where your destination is. However, given the cost it is an amazing choice. I am really happy I stayed there.

I absolutely love this place. I was on a motorcycle trip and only found it because it was where I wanted to stop for that day. The rooms are modernized. I did have a freestanding air conditioner which was a little loud but the room was very clean and updated. The real standout is the service here and of course the view because you're sitting right on the South Fork American River. Absolutely stunning. View of the river right out the window!

We found this well-placed hotel a year ago and had such a wonderful experience that we brought the family back again this ski season. It is even better this year, with all the remodeling the new owners have done. The parking lot and roof are brand new. We had three rooms and all of them had been completely renovated - I especially loved the ceiling mounted showerheads. They were installing electric heaters in the stairs, which is a great idea to keep the ice off.

The location is ideal - a short drive to the ski areas, but closer to Sacramento and the Bay Area. Saves us an hour each way, which is key for me because I am the driver and am usually tired from skiing all day.

But the best thing about this place are the owners. Craig and Amber are wonderful hosts. They are friendly and generous and we could tell they genuinely wanted us have a comfortable stay.

Last but not least, the price is right, especially compared to Tahoe hotels.
