About Campground

Directions

Located at the summit of Raton Pass, where the I-25 crosses the state line between New Mexico and Colorado. We're on the east side of the highway at Exit 460. When arriving from Colorado, start looking for Exit 460 (NM) shortly after Exit 2 (CO). Exit 460 is shared with the NM Port of Entry (Weigh Station) so follow the signs for all commercial vehicles. Once you exit the Interstate the exit ramp will "Y", bear right and follow the camp signs up and over the highway to the east side. At the Stop sign turn right, go about 100 yards, turn left and you'll be in our driveway. When arriving from New Mexico, Exit 460 is fairly easy to spot just at the top of the pass. Once you exit, you'll see our entrance on the right.

This would have been our second time staying here, but unfortunately we had several things happen on the road (construction, slow trucks on the mountain) that was going to push us in a little late. When we called to tell them the lady on the phone told us she was running the place for her sister and couldn't authorize us backing in ourselves for insurance reasons. She said she would call us back and let us know. About 20 minutes later we started getting messages that our reservation was cancelled, but no call. Then I got a message from my credit card informing me that there was a charge on my credit card of like $1.38, from the campground which was weird. I called to inquire about the cancellation and the additional charge and the lady freaked out when I said there was an additional charge and started yelling : "NO you received a refund sir. I'm not arguing with you sir" over and over then hung up the phone on me. It was hilarious, but also pretty disturbing. I kept having flashbacks of Norman Bates for some reason. Wife and I decided probably best to stay down the road somewhere....

I get if you don't have late arrivals, no big deal, but clearly state that ahead of time and call back when you say you will and why the $1.38 on my credit card? I called back and left a message explaining I wasn't trying to argue and just wanted to know about the additional charge. Nobody ever called back. Had you told me you needed the $1.38 for a snickers to get your blood sugar in check, I would have gladly accepted the charge to spare anyone else from having to deal with this.

When we did stay there the first time the campground had good views but the spots are very close together and when you walk out the door you are greeted with your neighbors sewer line right next to your picnic table they are so close.

We won't stay here again because of the very odd behavior and unwelcome attitude of the staff. We stayed just up the road in Trinidad. There are PLENTY of nice campgrounds with welcoming people nearby. The only thing this place has going for it is the views.

This was a great campground, we stayed three nights there. The folks were so friendly there, met the owner Rhonda who was very pleasant to talk with. The park overall was very clean and well run. Rules are put in place for a reason and as a guest you should follow the rules.

Loved the hummingbirds, scenery around the park, the swing down the walk way and oh yes the very friendly cats. We enjoyed the park very much and will be back again. Paul and Janice

The owner hosts were very responsive from reservation through checkout. The campground is just off the freeway but is quiet. Showers & laundry are clean and easy access. Back-in sites have nice views and pull-thrus were easy access for overnight guests. We stayed extra days.
