From Observer's trail it's longer but not as steep as ranger. Pretty easy hike. Views are worth it even if the fire tower is closed

We took the observer path up and the regular path down. The observer path is more mileage but a more gradual climb. We enjoyed the many mushrooms on this trail. The hike is still a climb, but the view at the end is well worth it! We hiked mid week and there were plenty of other hikers but it definitely wasn’t as crowded as some of the trails south of here! We hiked with five kids age 4,6,8,10,and 13. We passed two ladies who told us we were only half way and then whispered they’re never going to make it! Well, we showed them! My kids are experienced hikers. Longest hike for the little guy is an 8 mile round trip to a fire tower, but I would say this is a very advanced trail for young children. Several hikers mentioned they couldn’t believe we had so many kids hiking it. It’s defiantly doable with littles but expect to take several hours even though it’s not that long of a hike. We hiked up and back with a fire tower break and pond break in about 4 hours. This trail of dog friendly, but please respect the rules and keep them in a leash! Not all owners did.

This hike is steep on the ranger’s trail, but this one is the shortest. 90 minutes to the fire tower with moderate water breaks. 60 minute descent. We started at 10AM and were back to the car by 12:53PM. That includes a 25 minute rest at the summit. The view is stunning and is well worth the hike. This trail will be slick if there’s rain or if it rained.
