Coming from Phoenix: I-17 is the most efficient route to here from Phoenix. Go North on I-17. Go West on Highway 69 (Cordes Junction is where the two highways intersect) for 20 miles. Turn right on Fain Rd (there is a traffic signal) and stay on the main thoroughfare and don’t turn off for 13.5 miles. Take exit 317 for Arizona 89 toward Prescott/Chino Valley. At the bottom of the ramp, use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto AZ-89 S toward Prescott. Go 2.9 miles then get into left turn lane and turn left into Point of Rocks RV Campground (easy to miss due to upcoming curve). If you miss us, then just continue 1 block to the roundabout and come back around (we will be on your right ). Visit our Directions Page via porocks.com.
This RV park is not my favorite. I will not be coming back. The roads are loose gravel and make it very difficult to get your trailer up the hills and into the spots. The spots are very small and very close to one another. It is nice that it is so close to Watson Lake. The bathrooms and showers were clean but the shower heads aren’t screwed on right and spray every where and the shower took a long time to drain so you stood in dirty water while you showered. It was nice to have full hook ups but if you can’t make it into the spot then you can’t use them anyways! For the price they should use some of the money they make and pave the roads! Campsites in national parks have better roads, sites and are half the price! And the employees are much nicer at NP campsites as well!
Not much more than a dirt lot with a few scattered oak trees with a dirt road from the street leading to the campsites. I'd hate to camp there in the rain. For us it was fine, since we were there to visit friends. But not much of anything other than a place for a short stay. They do have complete hook ups. The laundry room was clean, and the prices were very fair. I, however, didn't use the rest rooms so can't comment on them.
We stayed at Point of Rocks twice on our recent trip from California to Texas. On our return trip we had trouble with our truck and had to extend our stay at Point of Rocks. We were hoping to get on the road when the truck was repaired and we were told by their office that if we stayed a minute past check out we would have to pay for another day -- no options! They were not at all understanding or gracious at all! So we ended up paying for another night even though our vehicle was ready in the
afternoon. The place is very dusty (especially when it is windy). My parents stayed there 25 years ago and said it hasn't changed -- no improvements have been made. It is difficult to get in and out and they are more interested in their policies and money than they are the customer. Though we have family in Prescott and could have been repeat customers -- we will not stay there again!
The only nice thing is the location to Watson lake -- but they have a nice parking lot-- so staying at Point of Rocks is unnecessary to enjoy it.
Very nice campground. I was concerned it was too close to the major road but it was actually tucked back farther than I thought. The campground was clean, friendly staff, very very clean and warm bathroom/shower house. That was ya major plus. I would stay here again, and that says a lot because I’m picky!
The staff was pretty friendly. It was located in a really great spot, but there was some construction on the main road that made getting out of the park tricky. Otherwise, it was in a great location. It was a really pretty park. I loved the walking path access to the lake. They have a strict dog policy. No more than 2 dogs.
