If your idea of the perfect winter retreat is to leave crowds and resorts behind and head into beautiful and isolated backcountry, retiring to a rustic ski hut at the end of the day, then Yosemite Conservancy and the National Park Service welcome you to Ostrander Ski Hut.
Nestled on the edge of a glacial cirque, beside stunning, crystal-clear Ostrander Lake (elevation 8,500 feet), Ostrander Ski Hut is a beacon for weary skiers intrepid enough to make the 10-mile trek from the Yosemite Ski & Snowboard Area. This historic building is a charming two-story stone structure beautifully crafted in 1941.
Beginning in mid-November, reservations can be booked live online, available first-come, first-serve. The kick-off date and time for this reservation season is announced at the end of October on this webpage and through email. To sign-up for the annual Ostrander Ski Hut email announcement please click on the "Subscribe" button at the bottom of this page.
I have never stayed in the sky hut but ostrander lake is one of my favorite places in the world..... very beautiful..... peaceful
Not for the faint of heart but well worth it! The bowls around horse ridge have some great skiing as well
A warm place to eat sleep and poop. Well, pooping is cold. Difficult 9 mile uphill ski. Start early or be prepared to sleep in the snow. Nice bowl to ski behind hut
