2 miles of washboard road to get to the river. If you have a motorhome you may want to go elsewhere. I had to drive under 2 miles an hour over that terrible road. Other than that, its a nice place to camp and fish.
Freaking awesome place. Saw lots of fishermen and rafters setting off but not many campers. We stayed in a TT and there were lots of spots. 1st come. $8 weekday, $20 weekend. 1/2 off w National Pass card. We stayed one night for $4. Possibly the best deal in the world.
Gorgeous views all around. Weather in late June was perfect. Bugs weren't too bad.
Getting here with a trailer was a bit of an adventure but any vehicle should be able to navigate down and handle the washboard gravel road in. It's worth it.
It's beautiful, WAY out of the way! Peaceful. I would be tempted to camp there. I just went for a drive, change of scenery. I stopped long enough to stretch & take some pictures.
Just over an hour from Bend this access to the lower Deschutes River is a great day trip or overnight camp. The drive from Madras into the canyon is beautiful and the setting in the canyon is classic lower Deschutes.
A boat ramp, good restrooms, and some campsites that are on the river make this a great place to fish, hike, and camp. You will find a lot of fisherman here, especially in summer.
