About Campground

Overview

Old Miner's Meadow is a two-acre, fenced-in group use area, located in an open meadow surrounded by forests along the Quartzville Creek National Wild and Scenic River and upstream from the Green Peter Reservoir. It is available by reservation only.

The area is popular for gold panning, fishing, scenic touring and kayaking. Weekends tend to be busy, so campers should book early.

Summer weather is comfortable, but can be cool. Visitors should come prepared for lower temperatures at night.

Recreation

The creek is popular for gold panning and kayaking, while the reservoir offers great fishing, swimming, sailing and water skiing. Within a short drive along the creek, campers can find deep pools, waterfalls and swimming areas. Visitors can also drive the Quartzville National Back Country Byway, which meanders along the creek, two lakes and scenic mountain views. There are hiking trails in the nearby national forests.

Facilities

**Maximum of 50 people per resevation.**

This facility consists of one large group area with no designated campsites. Site amenities include picnic tables, individual campfire rings, a group campfire ring and grill, trash collection, vault toilets and horseshoe pits.

The toilets for the site are available to campers on private land just outside the site fence boundary. Groups are required to bring their own drinking water and firewood.

Natural Features

The section of Quartzville Creek adjacent to the campground is registered as a National Wild and Scenic River for its recreation and resource opportunities. The nearby Green Peter Reservoir has emerald-colored waters, mountain views and plenty of space for water activities.

Though some areas of the surrounding forests have been logged, groves of old growth trees are a short drive away from the campground. This facility is in a meadow dotted with trees, and has both shaded and sunny sites. Though campers may not see them in the campground, elk frequent the area.

Nearby Attractions

Campers can visit the East Linn Museum in the town of Sweet Home to learn about the history of the area. The campground is also adjacent to the Willamette National Forest, which stretches for 110 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Range in western Oregon.

You have lots of nice places to park, you can get to the water easy enough. This place is AWSOME, you have to make reservations a year ahead!!

This is a great place to relax by yourself, with a group or family. Creek access & lots of room to roam. Loved the full moon shining into the meadow at night. Tent or trailer, picnic tables & camp fire grates

We have been going here with a miner's group each summer for several years. It's basic, dry camping. The hills are beautiful, the creek is GORGEOUS. Some swim holes are deep enough that small children will need a life preserver or puddle jumper if you're not physically within reach of them. The group area is large and grassy with some shaded areas and a central fire pit. Vault toilet bathroom. I never used it since we had our RV but my husband did and said it's kept clean.

This is truly one of my most favorite places ever because of the natural beauty.

There is no cell service.

It took us about 45 minutes to get down far enough to get any service. If you or a member of your party have serious medical issues that's something to consider. It's pretty isolated. (I personally appreciate the break from our phones!). Also consider that you're a visitor in the wilderness. There will be animals up there in the hills so be prepared with some protection if youre planning on hiking. Bear spray or a firearm may be wise. Keep small children and pets very close. Basic wilderness stuff. If you want to experience Oregon nature, it is stellar. ♡

Need better signage so people stop walking through camp to get to the river. Great place to camp.

This is a peaceful oasis of green. Trails are available to anyone. Campground is private. Make reservations for group camping. Riverbed is green and glorious and slick! So be careful if you wade out into the water. Restroom on site. Not great, but better than nothing. Enjoy the little water critters, ducks and birds.
