During heavy snow years, snowmobiles will not be able to access the Terrible Treverse area because the area fills with snow due to the high elevations and steep canyon walls. This site is good early in the winter season due to the higher elevation. Follow direction of Meadows parking guards for access to sno-park on busy days. This lot has a five percent grade so good tires are a must. Parking lot has space for 30 vehicles. Trailers are allowed.
From Hood River, OR head south on Highway 35 approximately 6 miles north of the junction with US Highway 26. This area is accessed directly from the Mt. Hood Meadows ski area access road. Cross Highway 35 to the east. From Portland, OR head east on Highway 26 to the junction with Highway 35. Head north on Highway 35 until you read the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski area access road exit. The Sno Park is on your right.
One of these days our kids will make it farther. But great spot to see some beautiful snow.
Cool place to sled but there's lots of trees. There's wild birds that will eat right out of your hand. Roads to the trailhead are kept clear and maintained. Beautiful place.
Great snowpark right of the Meadows off ramp. Got there at 11am on a bluebird day, which was a mistake due to the sheer amount of traffic. Tried parking on the ramp but got told by meadows employee's that likely to get ticketed. Luckily found a spot in the parking area from a couple coming off the trail. Can fit about 20 cars or so, with vault toilet in the parking lot Number of trails on and off a forest road, with some phenomenal views of mt hood. We snowshoed for about 5 miles but saw people sledding and glade skiing. Will be heading back to try some off trail snowshoeing.
We snowshoed the Bennett Pass Road Out and Back trail listed in AllTrails. About 5 miles in 2.5 hrs with a short snack break and a few water breaks. We started at 8 am and didn't see anyone on the trail until we were really close to the parking area on our way back. Snow was slushy and deep in some places where we would sink a few inches even with snowshoes. Still, a great beginner trail, would definitely recommend if you are breaking in new snowshoes like us. 😀
