Be sure to stop in the Visitor Center. They had a prairie dog when we went that loved to be petted. Great staff; able to answer all of our questions. They even had some Route 66 stuff.
We rented 2 campsites near the playground and nature center. The park is beautiful, well tended and patrolled by the on site host...the water and beach area are so great because the kids can go soooo far out and still touch bottom. We had a blast as always and will be back.
Our family stopped by Grand Lake State Park on our way to Missouri. We did the trail at the Bernice Area and it was a nice paved trail with dirt paths to the lake. Beautiful views from the shoreline! We did not hike the complete trail due to time, but would definitely come back to do the trail again! Unfortunately, the nature center was already closed by the time we got there. The one negative I have is that one of the stalls was disgusting in the women’s restroom…
Beautiful views at a nice campground. Full but enough elbow room between campsites. Showers with warm-ish water & toilets. Charming nature center and nature trail that is great for kids. Only drawback: close to road, lots of vehicle noise all night, and dogs at neighborhood property barking all night.
