_This are partially developed, shady campgrounds within hiking distance of the lake._ The El Caso Campgounds are partially developed campgrounds located at the east end of Quemado Lake, approximately .25 miles east of the Piñon CG. They are nestled in a valley stretching alongside an intermittent stream and are surrounded by ponderosa pine and cottonwood trees. The El Caso Campgrounds are popular with hunters, groups, and campers desiring a more primitive camping experience.
Just southwest of Quemado, NM, go south on NM 32 for 14.2 miles to Quemado Lake/NM 103 sign. At the sign go east on NM 103 for 4 miles to where Forest Road 13 (gravel) begins. Continue past the lake. The campground is on the right.
The restroom were clean, best part there is a rv dump station near by.
El Caso is a beautiful place sitting in the trees. Unfortunately the people who use it often go there to get drunk and loud and party. They disregard USFS rules and ruin the setting for others.
Great getaway place. Never too busy, at least the times that I went. The lake is 7-8 minutes away. Great views along the way. Drinking water near by and RV dump near by ($5). Lots of tall Ponderosa Pines. Usually see elk driving in or out.
One of my favorite places to be! Fishing, hunting, or just relaxing. Just beautiful!
