It pains me to write a 2-star review, it is very unlike me. We stayed here for just 1 night on a recent trip to Nauvoo. This review is 2 part, one about the campground, two about the restaurant.
1) The campground: 3 Star
is fairly small, with side by side parking up 2 rows. It does have a facility with showers, but you must muster all the courage within to use it. If I were on fire, or covered in acid, perhaps I would use it. They were bug infested and dirty feeling, I may have found a few new species of bugs whilst in there. I will say - if you have your own fully self-contained camper, this would be a just fine place to camp because they do have water and electric hookup.
2) The Restaurant: 1 Star
Being one of the few that we could find open, we decided to give it a go. I have never seen a restaurant, still open, that was like this place. It was one of the strangest restaurant experiences I have had. It may have been clean, unlikely, but maybe? But it has that dirty, greasy feel to it, regardless if it was clean or not. We ordered multiple menu items, to which the response several times was "We are out of that". So finally settled on some food, went to get soda and the ice machine was empty, so I enjoyed warmish soda while waiting for the food. What felt like 30 minutes later (very well could have been) the waiter/cook/janitor? brought my food out and could not see where he was going because his hair was so long over his eyes. To his credit, he was very friendly, but not very presentable for bringing food to the table, and especially for being the cook. We ate and were in such a hurry to leave because the place just felt so grimy and gross. and shoulder to shoulder tables. I 100% will not be shocked if it is not in operation my next visit, not due to lack of customers, as desperation brings those, but more health code related.
Take this review for what it is, I am not one to rag on places normally. But I want others to be aware of what they are getting themselves into. One off situation I had? Perhaps. Give it a try and see what you think.
We THOROUGHLY enjoyed this place!! Burgers, fries, onion rings, malts, shakes were GREAT!! The place was adequately clean, and in good repair! THANKS for an enjoyable meal for the 7 of us!💜 P.S. NOW called Peter's Place!
This is no longer the Dairy Sweet but is now Pete's Place. Reasonably priced rv site and restaurant but...showers are not clean, the only hook in the men's to hang a towel is broken off. The food from the restaurant was tasty, but the ordering counter area and dining room of restaurant itself is filthy. Not just from one busy day, but really unattended to stacked up dirt on walks, floors, seats, etc. We hoped the kitchen was better. We would not eat in, but took the food back to our rv. Pete seems nice but was off duty, and needs to get that place CLEAN!
This place shows on Google maps that it’s closed. However, we stayed there June 6-10, 2022. They have been closed down for a couple of years and are just starting to open back up. The restaurant is not open. This is a basic rv park with no frills. We were able to book this site by messaging them on FB.
The sites are full hookup and pull through. We did have to dig out the lid to the sewer connection with a stick, but it only took about a minute. All sites are grass, no concrete pads. The bathrooms and laundry were unavailable.
The owner of the property greeted us when we arrived. SUPER NICE man! He is very knowledgeable about the area both with history and with where to go and what not to miss. Definitely talk to him and ask him about his recommendations! We did everything he recommended and we were not disappointed.
The price per night was extremely reasonable, but you need to have cash or Venmo to pay. And the location is amazing! We would definitely stay here again.
